See AllFloyd's Pelican Bar The Pelican Bar is a rustic wooden bar, with thatch roof built on a sand bar in the middle of the ocean. Just a quarter of a mile out to sea, half-way between Black River and Treasure Beach. Just a 20 minute boat ride from Katamah! The Pelican Bar is the perfect place to spend the day being busy doing nothing; sunbath, drink beer, swim in the shallow waters, eat freshly caught fish lunch or even bring along your fishing gear and catch your own fish. The Pelican Bar quite literally began life as a dream, local fisherman Floyd Forbes dreamt one night of a bar built out at sea, resting on stilts. The clarity of the dream inspired Forbes to set about building this bar, which he did by transporting large planks of wood on his fishing boat. In 2001 the bar was completed and it was given its name after the large flocks of Pelicans who rested on the sand bank. It was originally used by Floyd and his friends to sit and take a break from a hard day's fishing. However, it didn't take very long for the local hotels to recognise the enormous potential of this picture perfect serenity. Please be sure to pre-order your fish lunch when booking this tour with your local fisherman, for the ideal dining experience out at sea.Book this tour or another boat tour with the awesome Captain Ted! Boat tours can be arranged upon arrival or in advance. Just email Reservations at katamahjamaica@gmail.com or speak to management upon check in.YS Falls YS Falls opened in 1990. It is a nature-based attraction offering the opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees. A trip to YS Falls will be a trip you will never forget! The gorgeous estate is a lush garden with an abundance beautiful tropical plants. The tour of the falls starts with a safari ride through YS estate past fields of grazing cows and over bridges and parts of the YS River. The Safari ride leaves you at YS Falls Outpost where you can find everything from snacks and drinks to tee-shirts and Straw Hats. The outpost is in the center of YS's two pools which is a wonderful place to relax, as are the newly built gazebos on stilts. The lastest pool is a black-bottomed pool which is incredibly warm from the sun and is a salt water pool. The tour of the falls is a guided tour, by a group of trained life gaurds who assist you through the water, or on the rope swing if you like. They are also very impressive photographers and would be happy to document your swim in the falls for you for a suggested gratuity of about $10 US dollars. More recent additions to the attractions at YS Falls include exhilarating canopy rides, which glide from the top of the falls to its base, and river tubing. These adventures are accompanied by experienced guides to take care of you along the way.Lovers' Leap Lover's Leap is a breathtaking vista look-out point. A short drive up the mountain, to the historic spot from which you can see nearly the whole coastline of Treasure Beach. Have your camera ready during the drive because even the drive up to the look out point is spectacular!Appleton Rum Factory The South Coast is also where you will find the Appleton Rum Factory. At 250 years old it is the oldest rum producer in the English-speaking Caribbean. The one-hour tour starts with a complimentary drink and video followed by a visit to the factory. Heavy with the sweet scent of molasses and cobwebs, the first stop is the antique house. Then outside to the old sugar press, where cane juice is ground out of sugarcane the old-fashioned way: by donkey! The Appleton Estate is a gorgeous property , among thousands of acres of sugar cane fields. The tour concludes in a tavern where you get to sample all seventeen kinds of Rum! The cost of the Appleton Rum tour is $18 per person.
